A certain select group of well-meaning progressives decided to take the opportunity of Mr. Ahmadinejad’s visit to host a gala event for him at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in NYC. The invitation list was supposed to be confidential and kept tightly-guarded, but word leaked out, alas, and copies of the invite have spread across the internet:

[…]

Yes, I agree; this is appalling. But it gets smellier and smellier the more you look into it. Here’s the bare outline of the facts:

The Grand Hyatt in NYC is owned by the Hyatt Corporation, which is owned by H Group Holding.

The Hyatt Corporation is a private company owned by the Pritzker family. Penny Pritzker is one of four major heirs.

Penny Pritzker is Barack Obama’s chair for his campaign finance committee, sometimes also referred to as treasurer for Obama’s campaign finance committee.

So Obama’s campaign finance committee’s chairwoman is hosting Ahmadinejad on Thursday at the Hyatt.

“Beyond Fitna”

Iran’s counter punch to Geert Wilders film Fitna is to make an anti-Christian film. What a bunch of hypocritical jackals.

Iran planning to shoot anti-Christian film

(PanARMENIAN.Net) Stung by a Dutch lawmaker’s graphic documentary depicting barbaric acts carried out in the name of Islam and the Koran, an Iranian film organization says it is producing a counter-documentary, “Beyond Fitna.”

Iran’s FARS news agency reports the film focuses on “orders given to worldwide Christians in the (distorted) version of the Bible for stoking violence, committing genocide, attacking others, beheading and burning women and children who have been taken into captivity.

Those acts are committed by Christians daily. Silly me… did I just say Christians? What a slip of the tongue. I meant Muslims.

The Iranian film announcement comes a week after far-right Dutch politician Geert Wilders released his 17-minute film, “Fitna” in the Web.

The release of “Fitna” on March 27 sparked noisy protests from Islamic groups and leaders – some threatening Wilders with death – and the United Nations and several nations called for the removal of the film from video Web sites such as Google and YouTube, FOX News reports

Iranian parliament speaker Gholamali Haddadadel called on his country’s citizens to boycott Dutch goods. European states will leave the road if they see threat to their economy,” he said.

The upcoming film will follow on the tail of the other Iranian anti-Christian film “Islamic Jesus”

TEHRAN (AFP) — A director who shares the ideas of Iran’s hardline president has produced what he says is the first film giving an Islamic view of Jesus Christ, in a bid to show the “common ground” between Muslims and Christians.

Nader Talebzadeh sees his movie, “Jesus, the Spirit of God,” as an Islamic answer to Western productions like Mel Gibson’s 2004 blockbuster “The Passion of the Christ,” which he praised as admirable but quite simply “wrong“.

“Gibson’s film is a very good film. I mean that it is a well-crafted movie but the story is wrong — it was not like that,” he said, referring to two key differences: Islam sees Jesus as a prophet, not the son of God, and does not believe he was crucified.

The film, funded by state broadcasting, …

Gotta love that “common ground” Heh.

[…]Iran called it (Fitna) aprovocative and Satanic” act.

Could they be any more supercilious?

Spit!

Tehran police chief caught with 6 prostitutes

Reza Zarei, who was in charge of ‘moralizing the city,’ forced to step down after being caught nude in local brothel

Published: 03.12.08, 08:59 / Israel News

Tehran’s police chief, Reza Zarei, has been arrested after he was found nude in a local brothel with six naked prostitutes, the Farda news website reported Wednesday.

Zarei stepped down from his post following the raid, the report said. According to another popular Iranian website, Gooya, the order to raid the brothel was given directly by Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, chief of the judicial authorities. It is alleged that in the past six months, hundreds of young people have been arrested in Iran for not respecting the Islamic code of behavior.

Over the past year Zarei was in charge of enforcing the Islamic dress code on Iranian women with the purpose of “moralizing of the city.”

Rumors of the brothel incident had been spreading in Iran for the past two weeks, and last week Zarei was replaced after four years as chief of police in Tehran. The arrest was not reported by any of Iran’s official news agencies. Farda News, which broke the story, is a website said to be close to the mayor of Tehran and former chief of the police forces, Mohammed Bagher Qalibaf and is considered reliable.

Revolutionary Guard, police forces clash with Iranian citizens in Tehran after they try to arrest a young woman for supposedly breaking Islamic dress code rules

Published: 02.25.08, 09:53 / Israel News

Clashes erupted between Iranian citizens, Revolutionary Guard forces and the Iranian Chastity Police in Tehran on Saturday, after police forces attempted to arrest a young woman they deemed “inappropriately dressed”.

The young woman reportedly resisted arrest, at which point the security forces attempted to forcibly get her in their car and began beating her.

The sight of the bloody-faced woman prompted a bystander to come to her aid, but he was beaten by the security forces as well. Dozens of Iranians who were present at the scene began rioting and setting dumpsters on fire.

The event was captured on numerous cell-phone cameras and quickly found its way to YouTube. The video clearly shows the crowds calling against the Iranian regime, shouting out “police state” and “no more Islamic regime.” The crowed reportedly called out against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as well.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard and Chastity Police’s efforts to enforce the Islamic dress code on Iranian women have been even more rigorous lately, as thousands of women have been detained, questioned and arrested for failing to uphold the dress code.

Ten people were arrested during Saturday’s clash.

Now for a bit of good news.

China Blocks YouTube Once Tibetan Protest Clips Surface

YouTube access blocked in China after Tibet clips appear

youtube_logol.gif

BEIJING (AFP) — Access to YouTube in China was denied on Sunday after footage of recent deadly protests in Tibet appeared on the video posting site.

Attempts to call up the site met with a blank screen and an error message saying the web page could not be displayed.

The access problems came after video clips began appearing on the site showing violent unrest in the Tibetan capital Lhasa that triggered a virtual lockdown of the city by security forces.

China, which strictly controls access to information, has kept a tight lid on news out of Lhasa, with foreign journalists being denied access and foreign tourists ordered out of the city.

The only footage broadcast by state-run media so far has been a short clip showing Tibetan rioters in the city destroying Chinese shops, but nothing has been released on the resulting crackdown by police.

China’s official death count puts the toll at 10, but the India-based Tibetan government-in-exile says at least 80 deaths have been confirmed.

China also has been regularly blacking out the domestic feed of CNN whenever it runs a story about the Tibet unrest.

Access to popular Chinese-language video posts such as tudou.com were operational on Sunday but a search for videos of the Tibet violence came back with no results.

In late January, China introduced new restrictions on posting online video that critics saw as an extension of the Communist Party’s tight noose on the nation’s media outlets.

Amid China’s information clampdown, the Internet has provided a rare window into the situation, with amateur video and pictures popping up on websites around the world.

Sierra Leone: Women Protest In Favor of Female Genital Mutilation

Sierra Leone women demonstrate for ‘traditional’ mutilation

knife-fgm.jpg

FREETOWN (AFP) – Some 800 women in the Sierra Leone town of Kailahun paraded Tuesday in favour of genital mutilation and told donors opposed to the practice to keep their money, demonstrators and witnesses said.

Women wearing colourful beads and adorned with seashells chanted songs in the local dialect that warned authorities and foreign organisations against “any attempt to take away our traditional ritual.”

A group called the National Emancipation for Progress has led workshops and seminars to have FGM banned in Sierra Leone, but faces opposition from people who hold the practice is harmless, promotes marital fidelity and is in tune with religious values.
